Before you start, you must know where you are going! This course will walk through the first steps before writing a solid sermon.
Topic: A topic is the main subject or category of the sermon.
- The topic helps put boundaries into your sermon
- Topics can be grouped together to form a series
- Choosing your topic could be dependant on your preaching style.
- Example Topic: Worry
Title: The title is a statement on where you want to take someone
- The title should be a directional statement
- The title is tentative and can change as the sermon develops
- Example Title: From Worry To Peace
Hook: The activity of getting people interested in your topic
- The hook answers, “Why should someone listen to this message?”
- Hooks are found in Stories, experiences, videos, photos, props, etc
- Example Hook: How to ditch worry and experience lasting peace!
Things to ask yourself while prepping your sermon:
- Who are you speaking to? (demographics, interests, struggles, etc)
- What is the objective of this sermon?
- How do you want people to respond to your sermon?
- Why should someone listen to this message?
- What is the problem to solve?
